Oman is positioning itself as an emerging regional hub for artificial intelligence and advanced computing. Muscat-based Mubbadrah Investment is leading a consortium planning a US$3 billion AI data centre campus, with capacity of up to 400MW. The consortium includes Sustopia Capital, Vela Tech and O2 Global Energy, combining investment, data centre development and renewable energy expertise. The proposed power strategy includes 400MW of solar generation supported by battery storage, alongside electricity from Omanโs national grid. US-based AI infrastructure company Crusoe has expressed interest in taking capacity at the planned facility, although a binding offtake agreement has not yet been announced. The projectโs location, construction timeline and financing arrangements also remain undisclosed. If realised, the development could strengthen Omanโs digital infrastructure, attract international technology investment and support the countryโs ambitions to diversify its economy under Oman Vision 2040. The next milestones will be turning the announcement into firm agreements, securing financing and moving towards construction.
