Oman has taken an important step towards strengthening its innovation and manufacturing ecosystem with the official inauguration of the Oman Makers Centre at Muscat Innovation Complex. Equipped with more than 100 specialised machines, the centre provides entrepreneurs, startups, students and national industries with access to advanced digital manufacturing technologies, including 3D printers, CNC machines, precision laser cutters, electronics laboratories and smart-circuit facilities.
Operated by Madayn through its Industrial Innovation Academy and supervised by the Research and Innovation Authority, the centre aims to help transform ideas into functional prototypes and market-ready products. Its pilot phase has already delivered promising results, including the development of Oman's first locally developed 3D printer and a smart water-quality monitoring device, with 80% of the latter manufactured within the centre.
This initiative can play a significant role in empowering Omani innovators, supporting SMEs, encouraging local product development and reducing dependence on imported technologies. It also creates an opportunity for businesses and industrial companies to collaborate with local innovators and accelerate the journey from concept to commercial production.
As Oman advances its industrial and digital transformation agenda under Oman Vision 2040, facilities like the Oman Makers Centre can become important catalysts for homegrown technology, skilled talent and a stronger knowledge-based economy.
