Omanโs Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has opened a public consultation on proposed regulations for Internet-connected vehicles, covering data protection, cybersecurity, emergency communications and localisation of vehicle-generated data.
The proposed framework focuses on five key areas: telecommunications SIM cards, emergency and roadside assistance, data governance, technical infrastructure, and disclosure and reporting requirements.
The rules aim to establish clearer responsibilities for how vehicle data is transmitted, stored, protected and shared, while strengthening secure digital infrastructure and consumer protection.
The consultation is open until September 1, 2026, giving industry stakeholders an opportunity to provide feedback before the framework is finalised.
