Omanโs Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued new regulations governing number portability, allowing customers to switch telecom providers while keeping their existing phone numbers.
The new framework aims to make the process faster, simpler and more transparent, while giving consumers greater freedom to choose providers based on pricing, service quality and network coverage.
A centralised and automated number-portability system will establish clearer procedures and defined timelines for transfers, helping reduce delays and improve the customer experience.
The regulations also strengthen fair competition among licensed telecom operators and clearly define the rights and responsibilities of both providers and users.
Oman introduced mobile number portability in 2006, and the latest framework updates the system to reflect the expansion and changing needs of the telecommunications market.
