𝐎𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐱𝐲𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞

Omantel has signed a framework agreement with Chinese LEO satellite company GalaxySpace to test low-Earth-orbit (LEO) and direct-to-device connectivity in Oman.

The planned proof-of-concept trials will examine how satellite connectivity can extend reliable communications to remote communities, maritime routes, industrial sites and areas where fibre or telecom towers are difficult to deploy.

The partnership will also assess direct-to-device technology, which could eventually allow ordinary smartphones to connect directly to satellites without dedicated satellite terminals.

Importantly, this is currently a technical evaluation rather than a commercial launch. No commercial service date, investment value or dedicated satellite count for Oman has been announced.

For Oman, the initiative could strengthen connectivity across challenging terrain and support sectors such as logistics, maritime operations, mining, tourism and industrial IoT.
