Oman is taking another step toward a more organised digital delivery economy with the launch of Wassel, a new programme by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) to regulate commercial delivery motorcycles. The initiative introduces a new electronic service through the national Naql platform.

The new system allows delivery companies to register commercial motorcycles, link each vehicle to an authorised driver, verify company and workforce information, and track applications online. This replaces fragmented and largely manual procedures with a unified digital workflow, strengthening regulatory oversight, road safety and consumer protection.

Wassel also introduces a sustainability dimension. Oman has announced plans for a gradual transition to electric delivery motorcycles, with the initiative registered on the Mizan platform to measure and track emissions reductions. The move is expected to help lower emissions, energy and maintenance costs while improving fleet efficiency.
The sector is already contributing to Oman’s digital economy. According to MTCIT, restructuring efforts over the past year have supported more than 40 SMEs and created over 900 job opportunities for Omanis. Bringing delivery vehicles and drivers into a digital registration system could further strengthen the sector as e-commerce continues to expand.
