𝐎𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐕𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐐𝟑 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟕

Oman is moving closer to autonomous mobility, with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), in cooperation with Oman Airports, successfully testing an autonomous electric vehicle at Salalah Airport.

The trial evaluated real-world capabilities including sensing and real-time monitoring, route planning, navigation, obstacle detection and intelligent responses to changing surroundings. Further technical and pilot phases are planned before commercial operations begin.

Oman is targeting Q3 2027 for the start of autonomous vehicle operations, initially focusing on rapid delivery and last-mile logistics. The technology is expected to improve delivery efficiency and reliability while potentially reducing operating costs and emissions.

The initiative forms part of Oman’s broader green mobility strategy and supports the country’s ambition for net-zero emissions by 2050, while creating opportunities for technology, logistics and private-sector investment.
