Marsa LNG has reached a major construction milestone at Sohar Port, with its massive 165,000-cubic-metre LNG storage tank entering the final stages of completion.
The full-containment cryogenic tank is designed to store LNG at around โ160ยฐC, with a 9% nickel-steel inner container and reinforced-concrete outer structure. Its 631-tonne steel roof was successfully air-raised into position earlier this year.
The tank is a key component of the 1-million-tonne-per-year Marsa LNG complex, which was more than 55% complete at the end of June and is targeting start-up in Q1 2028. The development also includes a dedicated LNG bunkering facility and marine jetty.
With the project designed to establish Sohar Port as a major regional LNG bunkering hub, Marsa LNG could strengthen Omanโs position in maritime energy services while supporting cleaner-fuel options for shipping across the Gulf and Sea of Oman.
