Oman is strengthening the use of artificial intelligence, modern technologies and non-traditional data sources in official statistics. At the 17th session of the ESCWA Statistical Committee in Jabal Akhdar, participants recommended establishing the โ€œMuscat Teamโ€ to advance the use of AI in household income and expenditure surveys, building on Omanโ€™s experience in applying AI to statistical data collection and analysis.

The initiative reflects a wider push to make national statistical systems more efficient, resilient, accurate and responsive, while improving data governance, administrative records and evidence-based policymaking. Omanโ€™s experience was highlighted for its potential to improve data collection and processing, accelerate indicator production and strengthen the quality of statistical outputs.
