Oman is calling for alternative LNG export routes to reduce dependence on the Strait of Hormuz amid disruptions to regional energy shipments.

Speaking at Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, Energy and Minerals Minister H E Salem bin Nasser Al Aufi stressed the need to diversify export options and strengthen energy supply resilience.

Oman already has an important advantage: its LNG facility at Qalhat near Sur operates outside the Strait of Hormuz, with three liquefaction trains and a combined capacity of 10.4 million tonnes per year.
