Oman’s expenditure on experimental research and development reached approximately RO 189.42 million in 2025, according to the National Survey for Experimental Research and Development conducted by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The figure represents 0.48% of GDP at constant prices, up from RO 98.26 million in 2021. The number of people involved in R&D activities also reached 35,539, including 18,193 researchers.

The private sector accounted for the largest share of R&D expenditure at 46%, followed by government at 31% and higher education at 23%. The survey highlights the growing role of research and innovation in supporting Oman’s knowledge-based economy and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
