The Oman Astronomical and Space Society has inaugurated its first fully integrated, remotely operated robotic astronomical observatory at Jabal Shams Resort in Al Hamra, Al Dakhiliyah. The facility is designed to strengthen astronomical observation, astrophotography, scientific research and educational activities in Oman.
The observatory uses remote operation and control technologies, allowing researchers, students and astronomy enthusiasts to access and operate the facility remotely. Its location at Jabal Shams provides high altitude and clear skies, creating suitable conditions for astronomical observation and imaging. The project is supported by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) through its community investment programme.
