Oman is positioning itself to move beyond clean-energy generation into solar and wind equipment manufacturing, with the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) highlighting major projects in SOHAR Freezone and Duqm during the Charging the City roundtable in Shanghai. JA Solarโs planned solar-cell and module plant in SOHAR Freezone, valued at RO217.3 million, is designed for annual production of 6 GW of solar cells and 3 GW of modules, while Mawarid Turbineโs wind-turbine manufacturing project in Duqm, valued at RO70 million, is planned in two phases. Together, the projects represent about RO287.3 million in investment and could strengthen Omanโs position in clean-energy supply chains serving domestic projects and export markets. OPAZ said the development can also support technology transfer, skilled Omani employment, local suppliers and broader industrial value creation as Oman works toward 30% renewable electricity by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050.
