Oman is exploring wider autonomous electric vehicle trials following an operational test at Salalah Airport, where the technology was assessed in a real-world environment. The trial examined sensing systems, real-time monitoring, route planning, navigation and the vehicleโs ability to respond to obstacles and surrounding conditions. Further trials are expected to test safety, reliability and performance across different environments, alongside work on the regulatory and operational requirements for wider deployment. Initial applications are expected to focus on rapid delivery and last-mile logistics, with potential benefits including improved service reliability and lower emissions. Omanโs longer-term ambition is to develop local expertise, encourage private-sector participation and build an ecosystem for testing and developing smart, sustainable mobility solutions.
