Muttrah is preparing to expand its tourism offering through the Muttrah Cable Car project, a planned 3-kilometre route connecting the waterfront with the mountain summit and Hay Al Ward Park. The system will feature 18 cabins, including two VIP cabins, with capacity for up to 800 passengers per hour. Three stationsโ€”Port Station, Summit Station and Hay Al Ward Stationโ€”will connect visitors with Muttrah Souq, Muttrah Fort, Al Riyam Park and the Muscat Gate area. Planned attractions include panoramic viewing platforms, an open-air mountain amphitheatre, restaurants, cafรฉs, retail outlets, the โ€œMiniature Omanโ€ experience and the technology-enabled โ€œDigital Muttrah Houseโ€. Beyond tourism, the project could create opportunities for local businesses, tour operators, artisans and SMEs while supporting Muttrahโ€™s heritage and strengthening Muscatโ€™s appeal as a cultural and waterfront destination. Operational testing is under way ahead of launch.
