Oman’s Environment Authority has introduced stricter regulations governing the import, export, re-export and use of ozone-depleting substances and their alternatives, reinforcing the country’s commitment to environmental protection and responsible trade. The rules also cover refrigeration, freezing and air-conditioning equipment, as well as refrigerators, freezers, water coolers, ice-making machines, aerosol products and fire extinguishers. Businesses and individuals handling regulated substances must obtain the required permits or prior approvals and comply with authorised import quotas. Violations can attract administrative fines ranging from RO 100 to RO 2,000, with penalties doubling for repeat offences. The regulations also impose controls on certain used equipment, cross-border trade and the disposal of regulated substances. Importers, distributors, HVAC suppliers and industrial operators should review their product portfolios and compliance procedures to avoid penalties and ensure their operations meet Oman’s environmental requirements
