Oman is strengthening its fisheries and food-processing sector with a new infrastructure development project in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD). The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) has awarded a contract for internal roads and utility networks to support a fisheries industries zone where investments exceed RO 123 million.
The first phase includes approximately 8.7 kilometres of internal roads, along with water, electricity, drainage and telecommunications infrastructure. The work is scheduled for completion within 12 months.
The development is expected to improve connectivity between fish landing operations, processing facilities, storage and logistics services, supporting industries such as seafood processing, canning and fish oil production. It is also expected to create opportunities for Omani SMEs in transportation, maintenance and related services.
