Diplomacy, regional cooperation and long-term security remain essential to building a more stable Middle East. Oman has chaired a consultative meeting at United Nations Headquarters in New York as part of preparations for the Seventh Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction, scheduled for 16โ€“20 November 2026. Led by Ambassador Omar bin Saeed Al Kathiri, Omanโ€™s Permanent Representative to the UN and President of the session, the meeting brought together member states and the UN Secretariat to review the proposed programme of work and progress from year-long Working Committee consultations. Omanโ€™s leadership aims to sustain dialogue, build consensus and advance practical negotiations towards a regional zone free of weapons of mass destruction. The initiative reflects Omanโ€™s continued commitment to multilateral diplomacy and constructive engagement in support of regional and international peace and security.
