Oman is taking another step towards diversifying its energy mix by advancing investigations into the potential of geothermal energy from natural hot springs. Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (Nama PWP) has invited specialist consultants to undertake the next phases of its Hot Springs Geothermal Project. The work will include geological, geochemical and deep geophysical investigations, geothermal resource assessment, 3D conceptual modelling, site selection and preliminary techno-economic studies. An optional phase would support drilling, post-drilling assessment and more detailed feasibility and development studies. The initial project area extends between Fanja in Wilayat Bidbid and Al Ansab in Wilayat Bausher. These investigations are intended to establish whether Omanโ€™s geothermal resources can be commercially developed for electricity generation or other energy applications; commercial viability has not yet been established. Proposals are due by 30 November 2026. The initiative reflects Omanโ€™s broader focus on renewable energy, fuel diversification and its long-term energy-transition ambitions under Oman Vision 2040.
