Omanโ€™s financial sector is taking another step towards digital innovation as the Financial Services Authority (FSA) begins the supervised trial of Rushd, a robo-advisory investment platform admitted to its FinTech Regulatory Sandbox. The platform uses algorithms and intelligent technologies to develop personalised investment portfolios based on clientsโ€™ financial objectives, asset values and risk tolerance. Beyond investment recommendations, it offers portfolio management capabilities covering asset allocation, ongoing monitoring and rebalancing across local and international investments, with portfolios managed in accordance with Islamic Sharia principles. During the trial, the FSA will assess the platformโ€™s technical and operational readiness, investment suitability, risk-management controls and user experience. Testing will take place in stages, with limits on client numbers and transaction volumes at each stage. Rushd must meet the relevant regulatory, technical and operational requirements and obtain the necessary approvals and final licence before offering its services to the wider public. This initiative highlights how a supervised regulatory sandbox can help promote fintech innovation while maintaining investor protection, transparency and confidence in Omanโ€™s capital market.
