Oman is strengthening its innovation ecosystem by turning student research and graduation projects into potential businesses. The Research and Innovation Authority has selected 10 projects from 232 applications for the ninth edition of its UPGRADE programme, with six of the selected projects built around artificial intelligence. The winning ideas address practical challenges across areas including healthcare, industrial safety, agriculture, water management, energy and financial services. Through a one-year incubation period offering funding, training and development support, the programme aims to help young innovators take their concepts closer to market. Partnerships with government entities and organisations including Omantel, the Central Bank of Oman, National Bank of Oman and Nama Water Services can also help connect emerging solutions with real-world needs. This initiative supports Omanโs broader ambition to build a knowledge-based economy and create new opportunities for homegrown technology ventures.
