Oman’s electricity sector is entering an important phase of digital transformation. Following the rollout of approximately 80% smart meter coverage by the end of 2025, Nama Electricity Distribution is focusing on turning grid data into actionable intelligence through artificial intelligence, advanced analytics and predictive maintenance.

The next step involves bringing data from smart meters, SCADA, GIS and other grid management systems closer together to improve asset monitoring, identify potential faults earlier and support faster service restoration. Nama has also reported an investment plan exceeding OMR 600 million for 2026–2029, highlighting the scale of its commitment to strengthening the electricity distribution network.

For Oman, this development demonstrates how IoT, connected infrastructure and AI can move beyond data collection to support more proactive, reliable and efficient utility operations. As the country advances its digital economy ambitions under Oman Vision 2040, intelligent infrastructure will be increasingly important for households, businesses and future industries.
