The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has warned the public about increasingly sophisticated online fraud schemes exploiting artificial intelligence, fake websites, social media advertisements and fraudulent cryptocurrency platforms. The scams include fake job offers, unusually cheap holiday deals, fraudulent property rentals and investment promises designed to steal money and personal information. One reported investor lost RO85,000 after transferring cryptocurrency to a platform promising exceptionally high returns. ROP has also cautioned jobseekers against offers that require them to open bank accounts or share banking details, as these accounts could be misused for financial fraud and money laundering. The public is urged to verify sellers and investment platforms, avoid sharing banking information, and independently confirm requests for urgent financial assistanceโeven when they appear to come from trusted contacts.
