Alibaba has introduced Qwen3.8-Max, its most capable AI model to date, marking another major milestone in China's rapidly evolving artificial intelligence landscape. The new model features 2.4 trillion parameters, making it one of the largest AI models ever released and placing it close in scale to Moonshot AI's 2.8-trillion-parameter Kimi K3.
Designed for enterprise-scale AI workloads, Qwen3.8-Max supports text, images, and video, can process up to one million tokens in a single context window, and uses a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture that activates only a fraction of its parameters per request—delivering high performance while reducing computational costs.
According to industry benchmarks, the model has already become the highest-ranked Chinese text model on Arena.AI and ranks among the world's leading multimodal AI systems. Alibaba plans to make the model available through Alibaba Cloud Model Studio, expanding access for developers and enterprises building next-generation AI applications.
The launch underscores how quickly China's AI ecosystem is advancing, with companies such as Alibaba, Moonshot AI, DeepSeek, and MiniMax accelerating innovation in open-weight and enterprise AI models. Competition is increasingly focused on delivering frontier-level performance while making advanced AI more efficient and accessible
