Reliable water infrastructure is critical to Omanβs sustainable development, population growth and long-term economic resilience. Bahwan Veolia Water (BVW), a partnership between Veolia and Bahwan Engineering Company, has secured a five-year operations and maintenance contract for the Al Asilah Desalination Plant in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. Awarded by Al Asilah Operation and Maintenance LLC, the contract covers the operation and maintenance of the facility, which has a production capacity of 80,000 cubic metres of drinking water per day, as well as its on-site solar photovoltaic farm. Together with the nearby Sur Desalination Plant, Al Asilah will help supply drinking water to approximately 600,000 people across the governorate. The agreement also creates opportunities to share technical expertise and operating practices, improve efficiency and reliability, and support local skills development and Omanisation. By combining desalination expertise with renewable energy and operational optimisation, the project contributes to Omanβs water security priorities and broader sustainable infrastructure ambitions under Oman Vision 2040.
