Suhar to Host Oman’s 28th Literary and Artistic Forum

Oman is set to celebrate creativity and cultural expression with the 28th Literary and Artistic Forum, scheduled to take place in Suhar, North Al Batinah, from October 25 to 29, 2026.

Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the annual forum aims to discover, develop and showcase emerging literary and artistic talent through competitions, workshops, critical sessions and direct interaction with established writers and artists.

The main literary competition will feature classical Arabic poetry, popular poetry and short stories, with 60 contestants participating across two age groups — 30 participants aged 18–34 and another 30 aged over 34. The top five contestants in each category will be selected at the conclusion of the forum.

The programme will also feature poetry evenings, open readings, critical discussions and specialised workshops covering poetry and short-story writing. Writers and poets from Oman and abroad are also expected to participate.

Beyond literature, the forum will provide a platform for creative disciplines including singing, photography, monodrama and fine arts, giving emerging artists opportunities to present their work and engage with professional judges and established creative voices.
Over the years, the forum has contributed to introducing new voices to Oman’s cultural scene, while creating opportunities for young and established creatives to exchange ideas, develop their skills and strengthen their contribution to the country's cultural landscape.

The initiative reflects Oman’s broader commitment to investing in human capital, creativity and cultural development, while creating platforms where young talent can grow and connect with wider audiences.

It also supports the cultural and social aspirations of Oman Vision 2040, where creativity, knowledge and the development of national capabilities form important elements of the country’s future.
