Oman Launches Tender for Ras Markaz Oil Storage Expansion

oil gas • Aug 9, 2026
Oman has launched an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) tender for the expansion of the Ras Markaz oil storage facility in Duqm, marking another step in strengthening the Sultanate's position as a regional and international energy logistics hub.

Ras Markaz is strategically located outside the Strait of Hormuz, giving Oman an important advantage for crude oil storage, handling and export. The terminal currently has substantial storage infrastructure and has been designed with significant scope for future expansion.

The expansion is expected to support growing demand from oil producers, traders and international companies seeking secure and flexible storage locations. Ras Markaz has already attracted international interest because of its location between major Asian and African markets and its access to global maritime routes.

The development also strengthens Duqm's wider industrial ecosystem, connecting energy infrastructure with logistics, refining, petrochemicals and other emerging investment sectors.

With the long-term site planned to accommodate storage capacity of up to 200 million barrels, Ras Markaz has the potential to become one of the region's most important crude oil storage and trading centres.

The latest tender reinforces Oman's strategy of using Duqm's strategic location to attract investment, strengthen energy security and expand its role in global energy trade.
